Tether iPhone for free wireless access anywhere

Sep 24, 2009 02:03 AM

Laptop and smartphone with wireless signal icon. We assumed the novelty of the Apple iPhone would have worn off by now. We were wrong. It could get better than TapTapRevolution and Shazam.

Almost two years since its launch, this little brick of wonderful continues to wow. Even with the AppStore, the iPhone is most utilitarian when it is Jailbroken. So, if your phone is factory stock, go here before you try Tethering.

Need to access the internet beyond WiFi? Got an Excel doc that needs a laptop toggle? This tutorial turns your iPhone into a wireless modem for your computer. Sound Greek? Well, it allows you to go online with your laptop by tethering to the iPhone's 3G or Edge network cellular signal. The connection is slow (think 56K), but it'll get you enough juice to send out emails or download an attachment. Bonus: it is free.

Thanks to Alex at Neatorama for the heads up!

The next big software update for iPhone is coming sometime in April and will include a Food section in Apple News+, an easy-to-miss new Ambient Music app, Priority Notifications thanks to Apple Intelligence, and updates to apps like Mail, Photos, Podcasts, and Safari. See what else is coming to your iPhone with the iOS 18.4 update.
