New App Won't Let Your Money Go to Companies You Disagree With

We're all passionate about something. Maybe it's the environment. Stopping poverty. Finding the best taco joint ... Whatever your cause, the last thing we want is to support companies whose practices go against what we believe. After all, you can't trust someone who doesn't like tacos. So it can be difficult to know which companies to avoid; there are just too many doing too many shady things to keep track of. Until ...

Nudge for Change! This new app makes it easy for you to avoid companies who work opposite your views, and to support those who do. The app asks you questions about what you believe in, where you stand on certain issues, and takes that into account when dealing with companies.

For example, say you only want to eat from environmentally-friendly restaurants. Nudge for Change will alert you if your chosen restaurant has a poor reputation for environmental concerns. Not only that, it will offer you similar food options from vendors who do support the environment.

Here's what the creators have to say about why they started the helpful app:

We built Nudge for Change because we wanted a way to ensure that we weren't inadvertently funding companies that act in direct opposition to the issues we care about—without having to do hours of research every time we needed to grab a bite to eat or run an errand. We hope that once retailers start taking note of all our small nudges, we'll be able to collectively give them one big push toward more ethical business choices. That way we can all nudge the world just a little bit closer to becoming a better place for all of us.

Nudge for Change is currently only available on iOS, but is being developed for Android as I type this. Until then, those on Android devices will just have to stay vigilant about where they're spending their money.

Or not. It's a free country. We're not the boss of you.
