NFC. It stands from Near Field Communication. And it's invading the world, one small step at a time.

Perhaps its biggest jump into the mainstream is thanks to the new Nexus S from Google. It runs the new Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) software update, which takes full advantage of the NFC chip inside the smartphone.

If your Android device doesn't have the chip yet… it's only a matter of time. The Nexus S is so future-proof that it has an NFC chip for reading smart tags! Google Nexus shows you all about it in this video.

The next big software update for iPhone is coming sometime in April and will include a Food section in Apple News+, an easy-to-miss new Ambient Music app, Priority Notifications thanks to Apple Intelligence, and updates to apps like Mail, Photos, Podcasts, and Safari. See what else is coming to your iPhone with the iOS 18.4 update.
