Nothing OS 5.0 Rollout: Eligible Phones and Release Schedule

Nothing OS 5.0 rollout: eligible phones and release schedule

Nothing began rolling out the stable Nothing OS 5.0 update on October 12, but so far only the Nothing Phone (3) is in the current wave. Nine more phones across Nothing and CMF are still waiting on a staggered schedule that stretches into January 2027, according to Nothing's community announcement.

The release moves Nothing and CMF phones onto Android 17 and follows an open beta that began in late August, GSMArena reports. Nothing says the Nothing OS 5.0 rollout is staggered by region and device, so two Phone (3) owners in different markets may see the update land at different times (Nothing Community; TechRepublic). GSMArena's coverage of the launch put it plainly: right now, "everyone" who gets Nothing OS 5.0 means everyone who owns a Phone (3), and no one else yet (GSMArena).

This breaks down which phones qualify for Nothing OS 5.0, when the rest of the lineup should get it, why the update might not show up yet even on a Phone (3), and which features ship with the firmware versus arrive later through separate app updates.

Nothing OS 5.0 eligible phones and release dates

Ten devices across Nothing's and CMF's current lineups are set to receive the update. Phone (3) went first on October 12, with nine more models scheduled through mid-January 2027 (TechRepublic; 9to5Google).

Three models are excluded entirely: Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not get Nothing OS 5.0 (TechRepublic). The cited rollout announcements don't specify another update path for those three devices, so owners of those models shouldn't expect Nothing OS 5.0 itself to eventually reach their phone.

Device Estimated window Status
Phone (3) October 12 Rolling out now
Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro Early November Announced target
Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus Mid-November Announced target
Phone (3a) Lite Late December Announced target
Phone (4b), CMF Phone 2 Pro Mid-January 2027 Announced target
Phone (1), Phone (2), CMF Phone 1 None announced Not listed as eligible

That leaves three groups of readers: Phone (3) owners who can check for the update now, owners of the nine scheduled models who have a window to watch for, and owners of the three excluded phones who aren't getting Nothing OS 5.0 under any schedule Nothing has published so far.

Nothing OS 5.0 rollout schedule: what "indicative" really means

9to5Google's report on Nothing's October 12 announcement lays out the order: Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3a), and Phone (3a) Pro in early November; Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus in mid-November; Phone (3a) Lite in late December; and Phone (4b) alongside the CMF Phone 2 Pro in mid-January 2027 (9to5Google; GSMArena).

Nothing describes these dates as estimates rather than guarantees, since the schedule can shift as the company tests builds for individual devices, regions, and carriers, TechRepublic reports. In its October 12 update, Nothing said it remained on track with this original schedule (9to5Google).

A published window is a target, not a release date. Treat November and December estimates as planning markers until the update actually shows up on a device.

Why isn't the Nothing OS 5.0 update showing on my phone?

Even Phone (3), first in line, isn't guaranteed to get the update the moment it's announced. Nothing says availability "may vary by region and device" (Nothing Community), meaning the rollout may reach Phone (3) units at different times. TechRepublic's reporting adds that deployment is phased by region and, where applicable, by carrier (TechRepublic).

Nothing says the general release arrives automatically as a standard over-the-air update once it reaches a given device, so Phone (3) owners don't need to enroll in any beta program to get Android 17 this time (TechRepublic). To check manually, open Settings, tap System, then System update (Nothing Community; GSMArena). If no update appears, it may not have reached your device, region, or carrier batch yet.

One Phone (3) owner in Türkiye reported serious notification delays, including delayed or missing alerts from apps like WhatsApp, starting the evening of October 3 (Nothing Community user report). That report describes running the Nothing OS 5.0 Beta, which predates the October 12 stable release, and it comes from a single user rather than a documented pattern. Anyone on the stable release who notices similar notification delays should report it through Nothing's community or support channels rather than assume it's a known or resolved issue.

What's new in Nothing OS 5.0 and Android 17, and what arrives separately

Core changes include a redesigned launcher, a new Micrographics clock face, a refreshed visual design system, deeper personalization options, and the Android 17 base (Nothing Community; 9to5Google).

Phone (3)'s official firmware changelog lists several more specific additions: a standalone Glyph app that centralizes control of the Glyph Interface, the option to separate the notification shade from Quick Settings, bulk icon arrangement on the home screen, and a three-color status bar indicator that flags sensitive activity like location access or AI processing (TechRepublic). The stable release is expected to include all of these OS-level features, though exactly when each one appears on a given device can vary with the staggered rollout.

Not everything advertised arrives in the firmware download itself. Nothing delivers enhancements to Essential Space through Google Play rather than bundling them into the OS update, TechRepublic reports. Worth checking the Play Store for app updates even after the system update finishes installing, since those features can roll out on their own timeline.

What to do now

Nothing warns that phones may temporarily run warmer or use more power after an OS update (TechRepublic). If that doesn't settle down after a day or two, check battery usage stats or contact Nothing support rather than assume it'll resolve on its own.

Phone (3) owners should check Settings > System > System update periodically rather than assume they've been skipped. Owners outside the current window should wait for their listed rollout period and check Nothing's update page if the software remains unavailable after that window passes.
