The latest video game developer to hit the scene is a hotel chain, and they're offering big prizes for high-scorers.
That's right, the W Hotels released a free game that can be played on your desktop, tablet, or smartphone called Belle the Bear. A Frogger-style game, Belle the Bear simply requires players avoid obstacles while earning points. Aside from the satisfaction of making it to the top of the leaderboard, the five highest scorers will win big.
Belle the Bear was developed to promote the opening of the W Bellevue in Bellevue, Washington. The city of Bellevue is very tech-focused, with companies like Expedia and T-Mobile headquartered there. Gaming companies are particularly prevalent in Bellevue, as The Pokémon Company International, Sony game developer Sucker Punch Productions, and ArenaNet are all based in the city. The W Hotels' approach to hyping up the W Bellevue certainly takes note of this, utilizing the city's culture to bring attention to the luxurious building.
To play Belle the Bear, visit the game's website. As of now, there is no app available for the game.
Simply use your arrow keys on desktop or swipe on your phone or tablet to avoid obstacles like fish, bees, and banana peels while continuously moving up rows in the game.
As you move up the screen, collect items like cannabis leaves, mushrooms, martinis, and W tokens to succeed in the game. Continue swiping up through the game's never-ending levels, taking heed not to fall in the water or hit one of the trees present in Belle the Bear's serene landscape.
After you complete the game, you can share it if you want to gloat or submit it to the scoreboard to be considered for the top prizes. Considering that my top score so far is six, I won't be sharing or submitting my result anytime soon. The current highest-scorer earned 21, 510 points, so I have a lot of practicing to do if I want to be a Belle the Bear-pro.
And — trust me — you want to do well because the prizes offered are insane.
The five highest scorers are guaranteed prizes, but the top scorer wins a prize so grand it'll have you playing this game constantly in the hopes of getting it. The first place winnner gets — as described in a press release put out by Marriot hotels — "a complimentary three-night stay in the Extreme WOW Suite at the W Bellevue, roundtrip airfare for two, dinner for two at The Lakehouse, a $500 shopping spree to The Bellevue Collection, VIP tour and private wine tasting for two at Guardian Cellars and a private 75-minute seaplane tour of Western Washington, including stunning views of Lake Washington and Mount Rainier."
Yup. Take it all in.
If you're not already shocked by the magnitude of this prize, take a peek at the amenities in the Extreme WOW Suite. It's 2,302 square feet, has a jacuzzi facing an entire wall of windows, and contains not one, but two 50-inch flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure. This suite is what dreams are made of.
You can play Belle the Bear to win until July 15th, so start training now to take your place at the top of the scoreboard.
