HONOR Robot Phone Camera Specs: Deployable Gimbal, Dual 200MP Sensors

HONOR detailed the full camera system for its Robot Phone at a camera technology event in China today, confirming HONOR Robot Phone dual 200MP cameras, three-axis mechanical stabilization, and a partnership with professional cinema brand ARRI for LOGC3 encoding. The main sensor mounts on a four-degree-of-freedom titanium-alloy robotic arm that, according to Honor, enables 360-degree subject tracking a physical mechanism rather than a software compensation layer. The China launch is set for August 12, with a broader global release in August, Android Authority reported today.

The device has been in public demos since March 2026, Android Authority noted, but today's event is the first time Honor has locked in the complete camera spec sheet. The feature set is clearly oriented toward creators who shoot handheld video, though Honor has not publicly framed the Robot Phone solely around that market.


HONOR Robot Phone gimbal camera: the confirmed hardware

The main camera sits on Honor's robotic arm and packs a 200MP sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches at f/1.6. Processing is split between two dedicated chips: the in-house Yuguang H1 handles imaging, while a separate sensing chip manages motion capture in parallel, Android Authority and GSMArena both reported today. One chip for pictures, one for tracking.

The motor driving the arm is where Honor's engineering claims get specific. At 2.6 grams, Honor says it is 65% smaller than typical gimbal motors while delivering 35% higher torque density, per GSMArena. Those figures are Honor's own and have not been independently verified. The practical argument they support: fitting a working gimbal into a phone-sized form factor required a custom motor built to specifications that don't exist off the shelf.

When not in use, the arm sits flush against the camera module under a protective cover and deploys with a dedicated animation in the camera app, as shown in leaked unboxing footage covered by GSMArena yesterday. Leaked specs cited by Android Headlines eleven days ago put the deployment time at 0.8 seconds that figure is unconfirmed officially, but consistent with demo footage circulating on Weibo.

HONOR Robot Phone 200MP periscope camera and the full sensor stack

The HONOR Robot Phone dual 200MP cameras are not identical hardware. The second 200MP sensor is a periscope telephoto at f/2.6 with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, a notably large format for a telephoto module, where the folded optical path typically constrains sensor size. The actual focal length has not been confirmed; previous Honor Magic flagships have offered 3x to 3.7x optical zoom, Android Authority noted. A 50MP ultrawide rounds out the triple-camera system.

On stabilization and tracking, Honor has confirmed three-axis mechanical stabilization combined with six-axis AI motion recognition, motion prediction, automatic subject tracking, and a double-tap shortcut to lock onto a subject, per Android Authority. Honor lists six camera movement modes: default, super stable, pitch FPV lock, FPV vertical, and rotating mirror. The sixth mode has not been named in coverage to date. The rotating mirror mode, if it performs as implied, would allow the phone to replicate camera movements that ordinarily require a dedicated rig.


What the ARRI partnership adds to the video workflow

Honor has partnered with ARRI, the Austrian manufacturer whose cameras are a standard on major film productions, to bring LOGC3 encoding to the Robot Phone. Honor describes it as an industry first for a smartphone. The deal also includes an ARRI Look color profile in the camera app and on-device LUT color grading support, Android Authority reported, with TechNode confirming the Log-C recording and LUT details independently eight days ago.

Log-C is a flat recording profile intended for color grading rather than direct playback. It retains maximum image data for post-production rather than delivering a finished-looking image in-camera. On-device LUT support extends that pipeline to the phone itself, which matters for creators working in fast-turnaround environments who want graded footage without a desktop session.

The "industry-first LOGC3 encoding" and "cinema-quality video capture" language comes from Honor, not from independent testing. ARRI's involvement adds credibility the brand does not lend its name to consumer products casually, but a partnership is not the same as verified output quality. That assessment has to wait for reviewers.


HONOR Robot Phone launch details and what the spec sheet cannot answer

The China launch is confirmed for August 12. Honor CEO Li Jian announced the global August timeline at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, with pre-orders already open, per TechNode. The device has been in controlled public demos since March 2026, per Android Authority, which is a long teaser cycle. Most of the narrative has stayed in Honor's hands.

Several key figures from today's announcement remain unconfirmed or are leak-based rather than part of the official spec sheet:

  • Deployment speed: The 0.8-second figure comes from leaked specs via Android Headlines, not Honor's official announcement
  • Battery capacity: A 6,000mAh figure appears in leaks per GSMArena yesterday, unconfirmed officially
  • Telephoto focal length: Not announced; estimated from prior Magic flagship range
  • Ingress protection: No IP rating or durability data published for the mechanism
  • Video endurance: No real-world testing data on sustained Log-C recording with the motorized arm active

The central performance question is whether the HONOR Robot Phone gimbal camera produces meaningfully better stabilized video than software-based stabilization on competing flagships. A larger camera module and a moving part in daily use are real costs. A deployable arm also introduces failure modes that fixed designs don't face: wear on moving parts, debris ingress each time the cover opens, vulnerability to drops while the gimbal is extended. If the mechanism delivers genuinely superior results, especially for handheld telephoto video, those tradeoffs make sense. If results are roughly equivalent to premium OIS, they don't.

What today's announcement does establish is that this is not a novelty built around one trick. The sensor stack, dedicated imaging and sensing chips, ARRI LOGC3 encoding, ARRI Look color profile, LUT support, and multi-axis tracking architecture all point in the same direction. Honor is positioning the hardware as an alternative to software-only stabilization, betting that physical camera movement can deliver something a fixed-lens system cannot replicate. August reviews will settle whether the mechanism earns that bet.
