Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 Android 17 update: who's eligible

Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 Android 17 update: who's eligible right now

Motorola has started pushing stable Android 17 to the Razr Ultra 2025, but only a narrow slice of owners can actually grab it today. So far, the update is confirmed only on unlocked units sold in the United States, according to TuttoAndroid and a separate report from Android Authority published yesterday.

If you own the phone Motorola sells outside North America as the Razr 60 Ultra, here's what's actually confirmed, what hasn't been addressed yet, and how to check your own device instead of trusting someone else's screenshot.

Who can get Android 17 on the Razr Ultra 2025 right now

One owner told Reddit they woke up to find the update already installed, carrying build A171VLH.48-18-7 dated October 20, Android Authority reported after reviewing the shared screenshot. That build number is a useful reference point, not proof that every unit will land on the identical version.

Neither report mentions carrier-branded U.S. phones, Canadian units, or international Razr 60 Ultra models getting the update yet. That leaves their status unconfirmed, not excluded; absence from the reporting isn't evidence of a problem.

The timing tracks with Motorola's broader Android 17 push. The rollout reportedly began in September on assorted Razr, Edge, and Signature models, reached the Razr Ultra 2026, a separate device, earlier this month, and has now extended to the Razr Ultra 2025, per TuttoAndroid. Motorola reportedly expects the update to reach all eligible models within a couple of months, though that's a stated expectation rather than a firm date.

There's a specific reason foldables are trailing behind. Motorola's official Reddit account reportedly said foldables like the Razr Ultra 2025 and the book-style Razr Fold need "extended development time" to keep transitions between the cover screen and inner display smooth, PhoneArena reported. The Razr Fold is reportedly still running Android 16 worldwide for the same reason, which puts the Ultra 2025 a step ahead of its folding sibling this cycle.

How to check for the Android 17 update on the Razr Ultra 2025

Skip the forum chatter and check availability directly. Go to Settings > System updates > Check for updates, a path confirmed by both Android Authority and TuttoAndroid.

If something appears, the build number may resemble A171VLH.48-18-7, the identifier from the one reported installation so far. Treat it as a reference point, not a requirement; nothing in the reporting confirms Motorola is labeling every regional package the same way. Once it installs, double-checking the Android version and build number in system settings confirms the update actually took.

Seeing nothing today isn't unusual given how Motorola has paced this release cycle before. PhoneArena reports that the first-generation Signature started receiving Android 17 more than two weeks ago, and some owners still hadn't gotten the over-the-air update by the time of that report, with a few switching to PC-based downloads instead. A staggered, multi-week rollout on the Razr Ultra 2025 would fit that same pattern.

What's actually in this update

Motorola's changelog for Android 17 covers a refreshed visual design, smarter notification handling, improved multitasking, and tighter security controls, according to both Android Authority and TuttoAndroid. The broader release also brings redesigned Quick Settings, stackable widgets, and notification summaries, per TuttoAndroid.

These are changelog claims, not features independently verified on every Razr Ultra 2025 unit in the wild. A device-specific feature list for the Razr Ultra 2025 hasn't surfaced separately from Motorola's general Android 17 messaging.

What Razr Ultra 2025 owners are reporting

The same Reddit poster Android Authority tracked flagged two issues alongside the install. They said the update ran automatically overnight and, without being asked, added TikTok and reactivated Moto AI. The same owner reported the cover-screen clock now overlaps the camera lenses, making it harder to read at a glance.

Both complaints come from one person's experience, not a confirmed defect affecting the broader Razr Ultra 2025 base. There's no indication yet of how common either issue actually is.

Battery complaints are a separate thread and aren't unique to this phone. PhoneArena reports that feedback across Motorola's Android 17 rollout, including on the Edge 70 Fusion, Signature, Edge 60 Fusion, and Edge 60 Pro, has been largely positive on stability but includes a notable number of complaints about unusually fast battery drain. Nothing in the reporting ties that pattern specifically to the Razr Ultra 2025, but it's worth watching your own battery for a few days after updating before assuming something's wrong.

Before and after updating: a practical checklist

Treat this like any major Android version jump. Connect to Wi-Fi, keep the phone charged or plugged in, and back up photos and important files before starting. None of that comes from the reporting above; it's just standard precaution.

Once the update lands, a few quick checks are worth the time:

  • Confirm the Android version and build number in Settings to make sure the install completed.
  • Check your app list for anything new, including TikTok, given the one reported case of an unrequested install.
  • Open Moto AI settings and review permissions, since one owner reported it reactivated without consent.
  • Check the cover-screen clock placement if you rely on it, in case the camera-overlap issue reported by one owner shows up on your unit too.
  • Watch battery performance over the next several days before assuming the update changed nothing else.

These checks matter because of specific reported issues, not because the update itself carries unusual risk.

Long-term software support for the Razr Ultra 2025

Motorola's own U.S. support page for the Razr Ultra 2025 lists Android 17 as the device's next scheduled OS update and states the phone will keep receiving security patches at least every two months through February 2030, according to Motorola's support listing for the device, published earlier this year. That's Motorola's own stated support window, not a third-party estimate of how fast the rollout will move.

What to do now

Open Settings > System updates > Check for updates on your Razr Ultra 2025 today. If nothing shows up, that tracks with how limited this rollout still is; check again in a few days instead of trying to force it.

If the update does install, confirm the build number, review your app list and Moto AI permissions before assuming everything carried over the way you'd expect, and keep an eye on battery life for the first few days before concluding anything is actually broken.
