Create a Fire Mixtape with Your Friends Using Spotify's Group Playlists

Music has always been able to connect us. Spotify is now offering an innovative new way to do just that. The company announced today that they have launched a new feature in collaboration with the Messenger app that allows you to share and make playlists with friends.

The feature is available exclusively in conversation threads on Messenger. According to Spotify:

With Group Playlists for Messenger, users can create new Spotify playlists with friends and immediately begin collaborating to build out their perfect mix.

What's cool about this new feature is the possibilities for music sharing that it creates. For instance, if you're having a party with friends, you can share a playlist in your group chat and have everyone add their favorite songs to dance to.

You can do the same thing if you're going on a road trip with friends. You and your friends can now collaborate easily in Messenger to create the perfect car ride playlist that makes everyone happy.

If you're not having a party or going on a road trip, this feature is great for friends to share new favorite songs or songs that they want everyone to listen to.

It can also be used to bring together a community. This month is African-American Music Appreciation Month, and recently California Senator Kamala Harris created a Spotify playlist to pay homage to the biggest black musicians including Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, and Beyoncé. An incredible playlist like this or even one for Pride Month could be easily shared with the community and allow members to input their own bops through Group Playlist.

It's easy to use as well, all you have to do is go into the Messenger app keyboard and tap the + icon. It will pull up a screen of extensions that are compatible with Messenger, including an extension to your Spotify account. Tapping the Spotify button will pull up another screen where the option for 'Group Playlist' will appear.

From there, you can hit 'New Playlist' and then title it.

Once titled, it will be shared to the group message with an 'Add a Song' button that all members of the group can hit to use.

You must have the Spotify app downloaded onto your smartphone, which is available on iTunes and Google Play, along with a Spotify account to create a Group Playlist. However, the others in the group chat can add songs to this without being members.

The feature is out today for Messenger users. I know we'll definitely be utilizing this feature for making a playlist for the office here at Gadget Hacks. Check out Gadget Hacks' first Instagram story (@gadgethax) to watch me give a video walkthrough of this awesome new feature.
