Have you ever wanted to catch up on Homeland or Shameless, but are out and about and don't want to use up your data? Those problems are for days of old now, as Showtime has announced their mobile app will allow titles to be downloaded and viewed without an internet connection.
This feature is available to subscribers of Showtime's streaming service, or those who pay through a cable provider. You'll need the latest version of the SHOWTIME app for Android or iOS if you're a streaming-only user, or the Showtime Anytime app for Android or iOS if you're a cable subscriber.
As soon as you update to the newest version of one of the apps above, you'll be able to download any of their shows and watch to your heart's content, even if you're somewhere with no internet connection. You'll also be able to choose between SD (540p) and HD (720p) downloads on any device. Tablet users will also be able to select a 1080p HD version to download.
Showtime joins a long list of streaming services that contain offline viewing, or services like Hulu, who plan to offer the feature in the coming months. According to Variety, HBO is now the only major streaming platform to not offer this feature, nor does it have official plans to offer it in the future. If you want to watch Game of Thrones, it'll have to be on your own data, unless you have AT&T.
Netflix recently rolled out offline viewing, but unlike the other streaming services, it doesn't apply to all titles, specifically Disney properties. So you won't be watching Beauty and the Beast on your flight, but at least you can now watch all of your favorite Showtime originals.
