Stickers are a staple in most messaging apps. Facebook Messenger and Apple Messages, among others, are all compatible with still or animated stickers to personalize your chats. Now, WhatsApp is stepping into the sticker arena with a new update, bringing the popular feature to one of the most used chat apps in the world.
WhatsApp will be slowly rolling out this new feature starting on Oct. 26, 2018, so it may take a bit of time for you to receive it. If you want to get your hands on it a bit early and you're on Android, you can always join the WhatsApp beta or sideload the APK. Sorry, iPhone users, but these aren't options on iOS.
We have more details for Android devices at the moment but will update with more iOS instructions once the update becomes available for iPhones. It should work similarly, though.
On Android, tap the smiley-face icon in the text bar, then tap the stickers icon at the bottom of the display. On iOS, simply tap the stickers icon right in the text bar. Once you do, you'll be greeted by WhatsApp's initial sticker collection, "Cuppy." Just tap on any sticker here, and WhatsApp will instantly send it to your contact. Long-press to add the sticker to your favorites.
But stickers don't end at "Cuppy." Tap the plus sign, and a sticker selection screen pops up. Right now, WhatsApp lets you download 12 different collections created by both their designers as well as affiliates. Just tap the download button next to the collection you'd like, and WhatsApp will save it to "My Stickers."
In "My Stickers," you can order your sticker collections however you'd like using the hamburger icons on the right. Delete packs you don't want by tapping the trash can, then by tapping "Delete."
You aren't limited to these 12 sticker packs, however. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of "All Stickers," and you'll see "Get More Stickers." Tap it, and WhatsApp will take you to the Play Store, where you can download any collection you want.
If you've used stickers in the past, WhatsApp's system will most likely be quite familiar to you. That said, we'll keep an eye out for the big update, and add any new info about stickers in WhatsApp that we find.
Astute WhatsApp fans will know these aren't technically the first stickers the chat service has offered. While not exactly the same, WhatsApp lets you add time and locations stickers to chats, tagging either time or location-based information right in your conversation. We aren't sure if these stickers will be moved to the new sticker location, but for now, they give your iPhone some sticker-options until the update hits your device.
