If you're a fan of Nintendo's Animal Crossing series, you'll officially be able to play this lovable classic on your smartphone in late-November. The mobile edition, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, will be available for both Android and iOS worldwide. However, it's currently available in Australia as a soft launch, and with a little bit of hackery, you can actually play this game now ahead of everyone else.
Animal Crossing has traditionally only been available for Nintendo consoles, so this mobile version is a welcome surprise, especially if you've already mastered Super Mario Run on your iPhone or Android phone.
In the previous Animal Crossing games, you build and develop a thriving village and interact with animals and other characters. Pocket Camp shares the same basic premise, with the key difference of establishing your very own camp set in the wilderness.
Playing and advancing consists of visiting different recreational spots to complete tasks, such as helping animals and building furniture, among others. Materials can be collected manually or traded using Leaf Tickets that are offered as rewards or be purchased using real money.
Unfortunately, Pocket Camp isn't currently available to the rest of the world due to its soft launch status and won't be until late-November, according to Nintendo. Luckily, you still download and play this game through some not-so-shady means, so if you'd like to try out Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on your iPhone X or Pixel 2 right now, keep reading to find out how.
Installing Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on Android is fairly simple. First, make sure that "Unknown sources" is enabled in Settings, then tap on the following link to download the APK installer file. From there, tap the "Download complete" notification and select "Install" when prompted — you are now free to open and play Pocket Camp!
UPDATE: The APK has been removed from our file hosting service due to a copyright claim. We'll stay on the lookout for an alternative download method for Android users and update this guide when we find one.
You'll need to be running iOS 8 or higher to play Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on your iPhone or iPad. Apart from that, you'll also need to bypass the iOS App Store's region restrictions before you can download the game in the US.
To do this, you'll need to create an Apple ID using a realistic home address from Australia, then sign in with this account on your iOS device. Once you sign in and are verified, you'll be automatically transferred to the Australian version of the App Store. After everything is set up, you'll now be free to download and install Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp just like you would any other app or game. Simply perform a search within the App Store to find the game, or go to the Games section in the App Store if you're on iOS 11.
Please note that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is still technically in development, so there's a chance you may experience a few bugs when you play the game. We tested the game on an iPhone 7 on iOS 11. For Android, we ran the game on a OnePlus 3T and Samsung Galaxy S8, both running Android Nougat, and a Galaxy S6 running Marshmallow. We found that Pocket Camp ran without any noticeable issues.
